I’m a new associate and am noticing that many emails addressed to me come in the form of Name, … versus saying Hello Name… Why do ppl do this? When I lived in Seattle no one did this.. Is this an East coast thing? thanks
I agree with you here, hate when people address an email with only a first name. It feels rushed and disrespectful. Taking a extra micro second to type “hi” or “hello” won’t kill you. I take my time replying back to those individuals. At the end of the day it’s best to keep emotions aside and ignore the syntax.
Depends on context! For example I had a pretty good rapport with my team director and he would often call me with my Last name or say hero since I wore all branded clothes 😂 but often when things were bit serious or project in dilemma he would call Me by name in serious tone and say can you come in the room to discuss etc.. I would say focus on work and don’t worry about hello hi..
This is more formal, either you are in trouble because they don’t want to be friendly with you, or this is just the culture of your company.
Typically people do that when they’re trying to be formal. But many just do it without applying much thought to it. Don’t read too much into it. I’ve come across people who do this too and in most cases, they are just doing this thoughtlessly.
They might view op as a risk of complaining to hr for being too friendly
OP, you are overthinking. Don’t read too much blind.
Next question: OP’s wife used to call him honey. Now she uses ‘darling’. Is this because of guilt? Did she do something wrong?
