Why do people enjoy working in NYC?

Most offices are compact, no big campuses as in the Bay, most office spaces feel like bpo centers where people sit really close to each other, and the rents are super high so most can't afford to live in the city. Even if you do, you get a tiny apartment for $3-4k per month. Driving is a pain and the subway stinks. If you choose to stay in Brooklyn or JC, the commute is around 60mins average door to door. Winter gets bad and the city also has a lot of homeless people around every other corner. Why do people like to work in NYC? Please mention if you have worked or are currently working in NYC. For those who made the move to/from NYC, are you happy?

It honestly sucks here. I’ve been here more than 10 years and look very forward to the day I can say “good bye” to this place.

Reasons?

Bloomberg 7bd92" Jul 17, 2019

Why haven't you already left? There are top tier tech jobs in the Bay and Seattle as well

There are a lot more fun things to do in the city such as going to museums, going to different restaurants and watching different shows. Also, New York City is very walkable so you don't even need a car there. So you rarely see any fat people in New York City

Stopped reading after you said museums are fun

to tell everyone that they work in NYC, as if we are all baby boomers that still care about this sort of shit

Cost of living is easily lower in nyc. Depending on where you work you can walk to work. More diversity and culture. Dating is better for both sides. Food is better. Benefits of Bay would be better weather, easier access to outdoors stuff, more space, and more earning potential on average if you’re in tech.

Weather is the only thing going for Bay Area

Work environment here is very toxic, it is like “Bell & Bill” Especially In financial companies, tech people are treated like janitors

Google spidey12 Jul 17, 2019

Post is about location not companies. You can find shitty companies in any location

Kaiser Permanente QqOm60 Jul 17, 2019

It’s actually cheaper for 1 person than SF

Pandora zOpL58 Jul 17, 2019

Yeah I 100% agree with this. New York is comically expensive, particularly manhattan.

Delphix Qeou08 Jul 17, 2019

@pandora, they are saying nyc is cheaper than sf.
