Why do tech companies make customer hostile decisions

I used to like Google reader and they killed it and replaced it with plus which was a very bad product and was unusable because of Facebook like crap and spam. I used to like KindleDX and Amazon cancelled it and replaced it with Tiny kindle which is not suitable for reading technical books. Apple is pushing the touch bar down our throat but I have never met anyone who liked it or used it. PC makers continue to make full touch screen laptop even though touch on laptop is an utter failure and annoying. Outside of tablets no one likes to touch the screen when coding. I loved Windows 7 and I had to move to Mac after Windows 8 and 10 were unleashed on us. Despite a revolt from users everywhere Microsoft didn’t roll it back. The other options were cheaper and customer friendly but companies still ignore all that and continue down a path of failure and expensive products. Today I’m paying for touch bar which I don’t like or use. I am paying for a full touch screen which is totally annoying and useless. Why is this?

Capitalism? 🤷

Other was selling right? It’s not that non touch bar MBP is free or there were no ads on reader.

I think these companies are trying to be disruptive and bringing in new tech or consolidating products. I am not sure if all of this fits under one theme. Apple touchbar seems like a design thing, who knows what might be V2 of this. They usually have a strategy which drives smaller decisions like killing Google reader. It is definitely chaotic within so I don't expect to understand it from outside

“Apple is pushing the touch bar down our throat but I have never met anyone who liked it or used it.” Hey, how you doing? Now you’ve met someone who uses it and likes it. Some of these are being caused by you living in a bubble where it feels like “nobody likes this” when in reality there are people that like them and, in fact, prefer what’s being created to what you prefer. Take a few minutes and realize that you may not be the target market for a product. Doesn’t mean it’s a bad business decision or “customer hostile”, it just means you’re not the consumer it’s made for.

Well I am a Apple fanboy and I’m surrounded (in personal life) with Apple fan boys and girls. I follow a lot of tech blogs on YouTube and have never heard of any nice things about the TB. May be it’s just me. Show a single video on YouTube from hardcore Apple bloggers where they assert that TB was a meaningful addition to the product?

It's not just you. TB is a joke.

It's the spaghetti on the wall strategy. Just throw stuff out there and see what sticks. I was talking to a guy who did nothing but startups yesterday and their mindset is 180 deg different than this. It was an interesting discussion.

Could be the pressure to keep unleashing something new, because the competition is also doing the same.. Ex, If MS still had win7 as their flagship os, they would be criticized for not innovating enough.. Companies need product launches, road map pipeline and all that... But it's not like everything is done without keeping customer in mind, it could be restricted only to those things which take the spotlight easily and are talked about in tech circles to the benefit of the company...

That’s a valid point. However when things don’t work why don’t they roll back. (Too much ego?) ex google reader, Windows 7 had loyal customers. When plus and 8/10 failed why didn’t the company humble rollback and admit that these products are failures. I bet Apple would sell more laptops without touch bar if they gave us an option. Amazon will also profit with a larger kindle because that would appeal more to STEM students.
