Why do we need H1Bs for PM (product/program/project manager) roles?

We have enough citizens and GC holders who can do these jobs competently, then why do we have companies hiring H1Bs for these job profiles?

Isn’t it unfair for the locals?

  • If there were enough they would hire. This is the decision of the market not some immigrant wish fulfillment.

If there are enough citizens why will companies pay more than the avg pay for roles, why will they pay attorney fees, H1b fees, then wait for H1b transfer? Is US capitalism dumb ?

I think they do. In medium sized companies, the cost of a resource is scrutinize more closely as the revenue stream aren't very diversified. It doesn't mean medium sized companies are cheap, but they want to make sure you are worth the money.
In big companies where the hiring manager has some oversight over pay, the hiring manager doesn't care because of billions in revenue coming in evey quarter.

What are you saying? Everyone has a finite budget. Maybe in google all those things are hidden until you reach higher levels. And also since google ranks higher than most companies, they will easily get most citizens to apply there as opposed to small/mid sized companies

Are you trying to validate my doubts, and reinforcing that what I am thinking is actually what is happening?

Looks like he is just trying to get people to respond and have an argument for the sake of having one.

The process is just fair. You have a pool of candidates, US citizens and H1Bs, both need to pass the interview to get the job. You don't see enough Americans bc either not many are applying for tech jobs and/or not many could pass the interview. Dunno what u are bitching about.

    • Lol dude do you know most H1Bs in FANG didn't come from India on job. They went to schools here on f1. After school, based on their education they joined companies here. Engineering, MBAs etc. If we really want to not see H1Bs at FANG and other top tier companies, you need to close doors on foreign students coming on F1. May be issue only like five thousand student visas per year for Indians?
