Looking at a few recent posts about startup compensation, I am curious what motivates or keeps people at startups. General advice seems to be “go work at FAANG rather than at a startup unless you are an investor or a founder” Ps:: well known small- or mid-size companies like slack or unicorns like uber, airbnb do not count.
You should also add: did not get an offer from FANG

Interview pass not by monkey coding but real coding and design. More personalized approach that big companies can't afford because of scale
If it’s a start up you believe in you will want to work harder. Thereve been several threads on here about ppl that make tons of money but hate their life. Also, you’d get to work with future leaders, you’d learn how to and how not to run a business which will help you be better when you go into the big companies.
Get to work with non-mediocre people
I worked at startups to get screwed by the promises of “equity” that will make me rich.
Wtf Bigger inpacts is the leader? Is someone really that concerned in saving the planet?
It's not about social impact. It's about business impact.
Equity that will 10x plus. You have to join real businesses though, not just any random startup.
Honestly I am fucked if I know some days.

Bigger impact, possibly better cash comp or other benefits. You can also advance your title significantly faster in startups.
