I find it very weird that so many people on Reddit would be so envious/petty about industry wages, and push people towards being overly grateful for 50k jobs.
Because most of them don’t live in the Bay Area bubble
Bay area salaries are hard to believe until you get one
And even harder to believe how little it actually is in the Bay Area Bubble. 😁
Everytime I talk abt west coast salaries ppl say it’s not enough because of CoL
CS senior here. Yeaaa I don't think I deserve six figures either. My perception of CS people making six figures is a massive lack of work-life balance, and I want a social life and sleep thank you very much
I have total freedom and WLB. I made well into 6 figures.
Same here, I have much better wlb than in college.
The real question is why are college students allowed on Blind?
they aren't usually. maybe he's working part-time though
Few people actually pull those 6 figure salaries, not everybody is an engineer/pm in Bay area.
And very few people in the Bay area actually make the large amounts of money. I've had tons of friends move back to the Midwest taking pay decreases because they couldn't handle average paying Bay Area jobs while having to afford to live there and they never managed to get into FAANG. Every single one of them makes more after necessary expenses after the pay cut and lower cost of living after they leave.
A large percentage of software engineers work in non-bay area, non-Seattle locations and generally make far less than 100k.
Because very few new grads make 6 figures, proportionally.
Because $100K is not a lot of money in the bay area. It is comparable to $50K in many parts of the country. Also, only a very small number of people are software engineers. People in ‘normal’ professions get around $50K to start, most stay at $50K for years.
I was super close to move to SF and was told that homeless people in SF make 100k. I was like that’s not possible that’s a joke. Then I searched up on google and found out that the living cost for SF is 37% higher than NYC
You all need to learn to be humble. Who cares what they believe? It literally doesn’t matter if you convince them or not. With that said, most of the TC you see on blind is BS anyway.
Most of the numbers I see match up with what I've heard from outside of blind that those companies pay. I think most people are telling the truth
Some do, most don’t
