NYC is a much better city. Great dating life. comparable tech opportunities and TC. Ofcourse, after the coronavirus subsides.
One word...Winter. I don’t have to deal with harsh winters on the West Coast. This is only my opinion, though.
Lived in NYC for sometime. Absolutely hated it. - The weather is shit - I hated riding the subway - I hated living in such a tiny apartment Life is not only about your dick
2 and 3 can be fixed with a good job though.
Why would I have to pay more for the same thing I have in Bay? At least here I can drive my own car. In NYC, no way.
Why the f**k do you have to bring the virus into everything?
Is the fact that Manhattan is densely populated news to you?
Is it true that dating experience is better in NY compared to other cities?
For males, that seems to be the case.
I don’t have first hand experience. My statement is based on various posts on Blind and internet in general.
“Comparable tech opportunities and TC”, this is absolutely untrue.
Can you expand on this? FAANG seems to be pay on par for both Bay Area and NYC.
@bulldawg SV is so much more than FANG: many unicorns and stellar startups, as well as second tier giant companies like Oracle and Cisco where ppl can rest and vest. What does NYC have? Just a handful internet companies have offices here, there’s almost 0 unicorn or good startups. Banks suck big time in both technology and TC. There are some hedge funds that pay well, but they are super selective and very stressful. For IT guys, NYC is several levels below SV, at least in the regard of opportunities.
For me, the SF/South Bay weather is way way better!! Humidity in the Summer and cold/snow storms in the Winter just kills me
Because I’m Manhattan they’d be competing with bankers and partners.
To me they are nearly identical. - expensive rent + housing relative to sq footage - shitty winter (although NYC obviously trumps SF here) - heavy dependency on crowded subway/BART/cal train - dirty - lots of unsafe mentally ill and/or homeless (SF trumps NYC here) - highest comp in the country they’re both pretty bad.
Dirtiness everywhere. Cramped and old apartments with rats.
“Much better city” is pretty subjective. I know it’s hard to believe for some NYers but NYC is not the best for everyone. Some people prioritize different things in where they live, and NYC does not top the charts in every category.
Yeah, this is a very subjective thing - building on this - working in SF, Seattle, or NYC are all complete non-starters for me. Hives of bugmen.
This is a comparison of Bay Area and NYC. I understand there are other cities for people to choose from, but let’s limit the discussion here.
