Why is increasing TC sole aim of life for people here?

A lot of people say they can have a stressful life and keep working hard each day to increase TC now so that they can chill in retirement. But I don’t understand that if you don’t have fun and enjoy life when you are young and healthy how will you enjoy life later when your body is weak and maybe you have some chronic illness.

If you don't grind in your twenties / early thirties, when? Assuming you want to settle down, have kids .. you're probably not going to be able to work super hard being new dad etc. Best to grind, get far fast and then enjoy your level / coast from your mid thirties on. Priorities change in every life stage. I expect a lot of ppl here will grow into the 35+ stage where they settle a bit and slow down a bit. But now they grind. Cause if you don't you'll get left behind and stuck on low TC in the best case scenario, or PIPed in the worst case scenario. It's a competitive world my friend.

I wonder if the 'just have as many kids as you please regardless of TC' voices live in the Bay Area. If you're in a two career relationship / marriage there's a ton you have to outsource and to be able to afford it you have to have very high TC. Or if you're in a one career relationship then there you go, double the pressure on the TC. And every additional kid increases the required TC significantly. And if you have family around US / the world, traveling with many kids is another thing. I can see how even a few M a year might start feeling tight with a lifestyle where you have to outsource a lot and where you have to travel a lot to see family etc. You're not traveling because you're rich and want some luxury, you're traveling for your kids to get to know their grandparents and uncles etc so it's a necessity. + Of course the size of house you need ..
I know people in tech who would love to have kids and don't have any because they don't feel they can afford it without switching to a survival mode.
That said if even with 4M TC there are limitations then that's depressing AF.

  • Software isn’t gated or protected like law/medicine. Salaries due to this aren’t consistent so you must fight for tc and make sure you know your worth and pursue it if you’re not meeting it rn.

Truth here. Most people here are ugly or socially awkward but with smart brains. Don't really have a life outside of eating restaurant food. So they don't know how to live it up. Hence they chase TC.
