Why is the stack overflow community so hostile

I fail to understand the sheer arrogance and a fake sense of excellence that some members of the stack overflow tech community have. Questions posted are treated with utmost disrespect unless they meet some "imaginary" standards , these folks need to chill ,it's just a site for asking questions , not a thesis defense!

You are talking as if Blind is a community that is all about sunshine and roses and where everyone sings kumbaya.

Consider who those people are. Engineers are specifically socially awkward. Don't have social outlets besides an online community and notoriously walk around with full balls. This makes things uncomfortable.

Because assholes are always attracted to position of “power” (lol) like moderator. Also, because SO creators did not see anything wrong with that, and in fact encouraged toxic behavior.

Stack Overflow wants be positioned as a documentation site instead of a Q&A site. I rarely ask questions there anymore. Reddit and GitHub are actually worth your time.

Why don't you hack their website and bring it down for a day? It will send a message to those hostile people 😂

That's not my experience at all. They key is that you really have to invest time both into your questions and answers. If you're asking something that easily be learned by reading official docs or watching a YouTube video, then it's a bad question. If you're asking open ended question, such as what architectural pattern to use, then it's a bad question too. If you don't care to include all code and show some effort towards good formatting and yet you want other people to spend their time for you - then it's a bad question as well. Edit: I'll add that on average, in my experience, it takes 1-2 hours to answer someone's question on SO. Unless I'm sure that person who asked the question will actually care to come back to it and thoughtfully absorb the answer, I won't even bother answering.

I disagree . I understand poorly formatted questions and vague ones are difficult to answer . But I get rude responses even for what I think are some valid questions.

The dumbest posts are "you should google that" responses to questions... Yea dumb fuck I just googled that and got your dumb fucking useless response, thanks for being a useless waste of space and time.

I have that issue too!

Posts a unique question, “THIS HAS BEEN ANSWERED REFER TO THIS SIMILAR BUT TOTALLY DIFFERENT QUESTION!”
