Considering accepting an offer at QCOMM to get out of the bay area but see tons of hate on the company. Can people elaborate? TC - 135k TC is less than Bay but CoL is quite a bit less in san diego.
Welcome to blind :)
Ha! Good answer . This actually brings me some comfort about making the jump
I like it here so far. And San Diego is a wonderful place.! I don't understand the hate either. Also, feel free to DM me if you have any qcomm specific questions.
I am one of the resident Qcom haters here. Please feel free to go over my posts in the Qcom channel if you want to get the complete story. That being said, its not that bad for HW eng. SW eng (embedded c)are the ones who are dying a slow death here. Also the pay is not that good for a SW eng here in SD . It seems great now but when i joined there was a stock stagnation for about 10 years. Thats it. No other hate. Anything else youve heard are probably extrapolated from local effects or just plain exaggerated. Enjoy your stay.
It greatly depends on which group you're joining and what your specialism is. Most of the hate that I see is related to the company undervaluing skillsets that other companies greatly value, which causes a perceived view that the company doesn't pay competitively. One such example is non-embedded software engineering, such as building stuff for the web, cloud or desktop. Those folks are much better off joining an (Internet) software company with that type of work at the core, such as Google, Facebook, Snapchat, Pinterest, LinkedIn, etc. However, if you're interested in hardware and anything remotely linked to Qualcomm's core business (APU, modem, graphics, RF, etc), you'll likely enjoy it here. You'll receive the best compensation that the company has to offer and you'll be treated the best.
This is a general issue with HW companies. Same story here at Intel.
If it's not FAANG, it gets hate on this platform
As said by the others, if you are a HW eng, you will enjoy QC
It depend on team you are going to join. San Diego is an awesome place to be, probably even settle down buy a house etc. Qualcomm had better future prospects than 5 years ago. If you've significant RSU those are going to fly
San Diego has good QoL.
Because they seem to lay off senior staff quite regularly 🤔

Could you please share rsus offered, and level?
Is it relevant to my question? I’ll share if it is. Just curious
Its always relevant to any question on blind. Asking for information, give information. People use this info to get an idea of if new offers are better than their current comp.
