Company is going through rounds of layoffs. Just curious if it is okay to indicate it is because current company is going through layoffs and I'm trying to look out for myself. How would you all phrase it? #interviewquestions #layoffs
It’s okay to say that company is downsizing. It will be public info anyway. If you say new challenges, they might ask if you will get bored at the new position also
So be honest and say since my company is downsizing I wanted to be proactive with and not be affected? How does that sound?
Yes, that’s what I did when a startup I worked at was closing down. It’s comm in the Bay Area and they understand
If you are laid off, do not lie. When your new employer extends offer and starts background check, they will find out if you lied (if you stated stated you were employed but were actually let go)
I was thinking about being honest but not laid off. Just trying to find a new job before my team does get laid off
If you currently HAVE a job, no need to give ammunition to potential employer. They will not only draw conclusions about your performance but also lowball your offer.
I'd approach the question by saying: "I've been at my current company for x years and have contributed tremendously. There are some expected organizational changes that will be happening, and I'd like to explore opportunities outside of my current company."
No. Don't say more than you have to. Just looking for new challenges
I def want to say that but afraid they'll probe more
