I'm gay. My company has a place in our HR profile under Demographics that allows people to self identify Veteran Status, Disability, and/or GLBT. This is super weird to me. Seems irrelevant to my work. Anyone else seen this? Is there any reason I would possibly want to consider checking this box?
Veteran status can lead to company discount
quotas baby. the stats are used to keep al sharpton and lgbt orgs from calling the company out to extort money. ACLU just extorted money from American Airline's warning blacks to not fly them. a couple meetings, some donations are made and the problem goes away.
Wow. Any exposé on this?
Another conservative theory/conspiracy theory circle jerk... at these point it’s impossible to tell them appart. Like discrimination only ever exist in ACLU’s head... statistics have a liberal bias so I guess denial isn’t just a river in Egypt.
It’s same w visible minority stats... never understood why that’s important to my job
Just as devils advocate from the people above: I have heard of managers requiring HR to provide a “diverse candidate pool” for reqs (both internal and external) because of the proven statistics that a diverse team outperforms a homogeneous but more qualified team. So... could make you eligible for getting tagged for a cool team?
I get what you’re saying but diversity can come in many ways. It doesn’t need to be color or sexual orientation dependent... you should hire for talent and only for talent? Maybe I’m wrong, don’t know lol
