Question for the Californians out there. Why are you people so obsessed with tesla? I live in new england and i understand that the weather and infrastructure is not ideal for a tesla. However ive seen people on blind classify cars into two categories tesla/non tesla. I understand if you classify cars as electric/ICE given that electric is the future but whats with the obsession with tesla only? Is this like a status symbol? Tc 80k. Own a 06 avalon
Go and drive Tesla, then go and drive a non-Tesla ev. Come back and let us know.
Mustang suv ftw
You gotta "drive" while using both your hands to eat a salad to understand.
It’s agility. My wife likes to drive our Nissan Leaf more than our bmw 5 because it’s so much more agile as an ev even though the bmw has more than 4x the horse power. But a Nissan Leaf sucks on higher speeds. A Tesla is like a high end ICE car with agility of an electric car, so it’s pretty damn good. I think it’s pretty accurate to call Tesla the apple of cars. It’s expensive, but not extravagant like ferrari, bentleys etc like the old vertu phones. It’s functional and has great vertical integration between software and hardware.
Tesla is not like a high end ICE car. Their interiors are not comparable to other cars in the price range. Performance model cornering is also not comparable to other cars in that segment. Tesla cars are just torquey and feel agile. They also have good driver assist features.
This was a good explanation. I agree
Tesla looks great if the battery range isn’t an issue.
Just drive one. Lol
My dream car changed from a Nissan GTR to a Tesla Model S
Because of the tech, hov lane access and it’s really a techies car. Presumably low maintenance over ICE or hybrids over the course of its lifecycle Too bad they carry a stigma, and is often associated with ppl who choose not to obey common traffic laws (mind you, speeding excluded) It’s primarily in CA also for infrastructure like suoerchargers or other charging networks at works or shopping malls. Not so much in the Midwest or in the east coast
Good luck with maintenance since tesla can’t service their cars. Check Twitter #TeslaServiceIssues
Gas also costs $4 a gallon in CA
So for the average engineer on blind who makes 300k this is an issue? Plenty of hybrids out there that get 50+ mpg. Housing is also extremely expensive in the bay area. Yet you don't live in capsules like people in tokyo and hong kong do. I think convenience > savings when you can afford it. But i understand that charging an EV in california is much more convenient than the rest of the country
Charging is the big issue. EVs need fewer parts and are cheaper to run, but nobody wants to wait around for it to charge, including me.

I’m Sooo Happy about Biden signing TikTok ban bill today!!
Autopilot is the best L2 solution publicly available. It reduces long distance driving fatigue by 90% for me personally. The supercharger network makes it the only ev practical for road trip as of today. Model 3 starts at 40k. One month salary for many engineers in bay area. Nobody really thinks it's a status symbol.
Alot of new cars have safety tech that makes long distance travel semi autonomous. But it won't work for long if you take your hands off it. Does tesla autopilot work indefinately with hands not on the steering wheel?
There is at least one porn where people are doing their thing while the Tesla is driving itself. Most of the very few accidents, the driver was sleeping or something...
