Sup Blind. I've posted on here a few times talking about how I wanna break into SWE at FAANG. Looking at job postings I see that they want at least 1 year of experience doing SWE-related work. Right now my plan is to pad my resume with some SWE related pERsOnAL pROJecTs and Leetcode as much as I can for a year before I start seriously applying. I have about 3.5 years of total experience (if you count internships). 2 of those years are the most recent where I've done 100% mechanical/manufacturing related work. 1.5 of those years were spent at Tesla internships where I actually first got to code on the job. I developed Python and VBA scripts to automate tedious tasks for engineers at work so it wasn't anything major. I did much more (mechanical stuff) but this was the only real coding I did when I was there. I'm super down to come in as an entry-level engineer but I'm still worried that my experience won't make the cut at all. From what you guys know, will FAANG companies just straight up throw my resume away? Will people on Blind laugh at me when I ask for referrals? Am I doomed to a life of shyte TC for the rest of my life? TC: $90k #facebook #apple #google #snapchat #lyft #microsoft #leetcode
My biggest fear as well. LC, Personal Projects and studying core CS concepts is basically my life. TC: 90k as a civil engineer.
haha you've commented on my threads before good luck dude!
Haha I’m trying but it feels like I’m drinking through a firehose trying to balance learning a language, framework, database and DS&A! Good luck to you too!
I was considered as a new grad when I joined LinkedIn with 3 yoe in a small company.
do you have a CS degree? I don't ;(
I got a BS in CS, not US degree though
LC and profit
I'm already doing that. I'm just concerned if I would even be counted in the stack of resumes.
If you can bang out LC medium/hard you'll be considered don't let the piece of paper stress you out
