Jet offer is pretty good. 5 years exp, senior title, 160-170 base, 40k RSU, 20% bonus, 6% 401 match I am considering passing to work for smaller company startup. I am terribly conflicted. Was able to negotiate startup pay higher , but not as high..no bonus, no 401 k and at least 15k lower base . There are stock options, though..no renewal as far as I can tell. Am I killing my future financial prospects? Am I making a mistake? There's no going wrong here or is there?
Jet was a startup before it got acquired. Also the early employees are millionaires
Doesn’t mean every start up makes it
I doubt this will be so profitable as I'm not hedging my bets on it being so thus why I negotiated better pay off the bat. Startup is in growth phase and more stable than most who knows where it will be in a few years. I'm not worried about that. I'm worried about not making the money I want TC wise in the future with a different company. I'm going to the startup for the experience.
If you are going to work at jet, you should come to wish instead. Same industry, much more successful with a smaller team.
Not trolling: Read the book: The Monk who sold his Ferrari
I need something like this.. thanks
Is it 40k Rsu or $40k rsu? How much is each rsu worth?
$40k RSU equivalent value. I will receive the number of units equal to that dollar amount (based on my performance) per year. Every 6 months I'm able to get a promotion based on what I do which can increase the RSU. I can make more or less RSU based on my performance bracket.
I personally think that you should do the one that makes you happier work wise. You will be able to get similar or better offers in the future. I also think this will be one of your last chances to do a startup before considering the ramifications with having a family
Roll the dice, take the role you will be happier at. You never know where the valley lottery will take you.
40k a year rsu?
Yes
They vest over 4 years. So technically you get 100k over 4 years (or 60k depending on whether you count grant or vest)

Do the one you want. That's an offer you can get again if you want to at a later date
Thank you. I was most worried about this. I don't need the money right away. I would like to take a risk, and return to the job market a stronger candidate in (hopefully) a few years. Thanks for your response.
You're welcome
