I currently live in India, applying for fall 2020 admits. My current role is of software engg. I really wanna get into these firms esp in trading/QR/SWE (in order of preference) roles. My undergrad was in CS. Will MS help me get into these firms? Or do I need MFE for these roles which I desire? My only concern is MFE costs 80k vs 40k for CS in tuition fees. #finance #trading #goldmansachs
Almost need a PhD of hardcore science to get in as quant for those firms. Or a top school CS to get hired as swe generally speaking
If you can’t get hired with a bachelors then you won’t get hired with a masters.
My undergrad was in India, now I am applying to colleges in US.
MFE will not help you with most of the roles at Two Sigma
will MBA help instead?
MS might help. MFE is not necessary. Undergrad in CS is enough for trading
How much does the brand name of school matter esp. for Citadel?
I'm a quant and we rarely hire MFE's. If u can't get into trading/QR after bachelor's degree, it's highly unlikely u will make it after an MS in Comp Sci.
Do a PhD instead of an MS.
Too long commitment, don't have any interest as well
Just be sharp at math, focus on discrete math and general problem solving. Degree doesn’t matter, mfe is good to get into Wall Street banks but not really relevant to quant firms. Also you want to be a quant or dev at hedge fund?
I would like to be a quant, but heard getting quant at those places is not easy with a masters only. So I am okay with quant dev as well (tech companies are lower in priority for me)
