We have $700k in Microsoft stock (SO just told me this morning 😲)

I'm nervous holding so much stock in one company and thought maybe we should take 10% every year and shift it over to a vanguard index fund which has a 10-13% 10 year ROR or maybe a bond fund. This will allow some Microsoft stock to grow but also shift the wealth to more diversified funds.

But this begs the question if Microsoft will continue to grow or if we should just shift everything to vanguard.

Whatever you think will happen, unless you have 7M net worth it's a crazy amount of risk

You should ideally buy a house with that amount (after covid).

    Put it on rent.

Stock might become 2 times in next 6-7 years. Upper bound. I don’t see msft going from 1 trillion to anything more than 2.

  • Index's aren't going to be the best choice for diversification in the foreseeable future, lots of bankruptcy coming.

The point of value investing is that they are riskier investments, so they are expected to give higher returns. Think about it this way, the market is mostly efficient (very little alpha is left) and the expected risk adjusted return on investments is the same across most securities. Stocks with higher risk have correspondingly higher expected returns. Staying out of value is understandable, saying stuff like β€œIndex's aren't going to be the best choice for diversification in the foreseeable future” is extremely stupid.
