I am a Chinese googler and i have a simple question for all of you guys :
will you guys consider relocate to China if the compensation stayed unchanged or even higher ?
before you rush to a hell no , consider the following facts :

1. china has some big names (like Alibaba , Tencent , ByteDance etc.)
that can offer highly competitive compensations comparable to FAANG,
(e.g. alibaba can offer 300k USD for a L5 Googler)
considering that living cost in china is much much lower compared to us ,
this could be a pretty sweet deal .
(actually beside China and US, no other countries can offer comparable compensation ,
european and japanese companies can at most match 1/3 of your current comp)

2. food and entertainment can match the level of NYC or maybe even higher
(search for the life in China on youtube)

3. it's much much more secure to reside in major cities in China,
you don't need to worry about any kind of violence .
(don't believe my words ?? again search on youtube or quora ~)

4. you also don't need to pay premium for medical care and kid's education,
China's medical and educational systems are extremely cheap
and highly reliable.
5. most importantly for the singles :
Chinese ladies are easily attracted to western dudes,
you can live like an Emperor in China .

bad thing about China :
Chinese IT companies have bad WLB but they are gradually changing it.

      > China’s air quality is not as sweet as us , but we do have cleaner water , we can safely drink any tap water without any kind of filtering .

Don't do it. Water standard in China is much lower than that in US.

I don't drink tap water unless I am thirsty to the point of damaging my health.
I drink RO water at home.

Lol no way. Im joining Google in december and even if i was offered 10x my comp there is 0 chance of me moving to China.

Right now its the uyghur muslims being put into concentration camps. Soon it will be other muslims, then jews like me, and then Christians.

I cant believe the world is standing idly by while China is basically Hitler's germany v2

You thought CCP can actually put ALL of them in camp?
You've no idea how many of them are there.
      CCP simply can't.

Chinese googler here. I won't move back to China at least in 5 years given that my visa's fine.

    1. Many Chinese companies have bad wlb and toxic work environment.
    2. Disrespect for programmers, low social status.
    3. Unhealthy food. Constant food safety issues
    4. Public health/education system is a disaster. Sure you don't need to pay expensive bills, but in exchange you need to bribe doctors/teachers, buy shabby house near school w/ insane price and sometimes resort to guanxi (connections)
    5. Chinese ladies have higher standard now. Programmers tend to be a joke to them. Everyone is looking at your appearance & pocket & work stableness. So difficult to have a deep talk.
EXTRA: nationalism is rising in China and I hate it. If I go back and speak up I would immediately disappear :(
By the way, Alibaba & Tencent is being nationalized, so good days won't last long.

  • Remember 996 is a norm in China. So instead of 40 h/week you’ll do 72 h/week.

If your Chinese TC is 1.8 times higher than google, then why not? But I highly doubt they can even match it.
