Role - Product Manager

Intuit - PM 2 ; Amazon - L6

I liked both the teams and the roles. I’m left with two deciding factors - money and peace/work life balance. Any suggestion or additional factors (Cz I’m unable to think of any) that helps me decide is deeply appreciated.

Nordstrom your manager told you they were not promoted because they didn’t manage anyone out? If yes clearly they are lying to you. I’ve been in both L6 and L7 SDM promo doc reviews and never seen a doc talk about how many people a manager piped. The docs are focused on projects, OE, strategy, etc. If a manager maintains a high performing team by managing out low performers they be able to deliver value and get promoted.

I don’t like URA target but saying pip count is used for promo is far from reality.

    • Again I wasn't on a dev team and also I'm not saying promotion is based on pip count. I'm sure those L6 and L7 SDMs you mentioned have piped people and obviously those things would not be written into a doc. I like the time I worked for Amazon and I have been a high performer the whole time, just saying what I see over the past 6 years. You obviously are on a good team and I'm happy for you.

If you are on H1b avoid Amazon, because of constant fear of PIP, if that isn't an issue, then go for Amazon, because 315k is a lot of money to leave on the table and Amazon will have more chances of growth. Amazon might look good on resume irrespective of PIP

Very surprising to see how Amazon is retaining talent irrespective of the work culture
