I just started at Verizon in a non entry level position position in Cary NC. I have no dedicated desk phone and have been using my personal phone. I'm sure once access is setup I will have a softphone on my laptop. My Supervisor and manager are located in different states (which is new to me). I've been provided a laptop. Is it normal to not be given a work phone? Is it worth asking considering I'm new. Or should I just buy a separate phone. Figured it would be easy considering they own a big wireless company. However I'm sure a budget is involved. Yoe 5 Tc 95k

Bring it up. They should have a clearly outlined policy for mobility managment, especially with BYOD being the norm.

If you've been assigned a seat or cube, then you definitely should have a phone at your station. In the office in Cary there should be a group responsible for setting up phones on desktops. That team should be able to shed some light on where that stands. If you're not getting a hard phone then you should be given a corporate cell to use rather than your personal cell. As advised above track all your business calls so you can submit an expense report. Double check with your manager to ensure they're aware that you don't have a phone.

Escalate it, you shouldn't be using your personal phone. Make sure you at least have a timeline on it or can get comp'd for personal phone usage
