What you guys think about the "talk to your manager before I can interview you" policy around the company? Is this common across other tech companies?
So the company would rathar have talent leave than move internally?
How did you draw that conclusion from what I just said?
If a candidate needs thier managers permission to interview internally (not before getting recruited), imagine what happens if the interview does not go well. Now this person is back with their manager, at their mercy, may even miss out on salary increases inspite of having done a good job
Also remember that there are plenty of young, inexperienced managers with inflated egos.
This is so teams do not poach people from each other or use it to play politics. The idea is that you and your manager should both agree that he can no longer offer you the career development in your current team, and then he can support you through transitions.
It’s common in most large companies to give your leader a courtesy heads up. Also a good leader will often call the prospective leader and endorse you to the prospective leader if you are a good performer!
There is no clear answer to this, it’s a case-by-case situation. Generally speaking, if you have good working relationship with you manager, telling your manager is actually better for you, so he/she can help you find a better team within Workday. Wish you luck buddy!
You are encouraged to give your manager a heads-up before you apply and not ask “permission.”

So hard being a women in tech industry
It makes sense. Otherwise your manager might not like that guy for taking away people he needs on his team. If you want to move somewhere without manager approval, look outside the company.
