Looking for insight into what it's like to work @ Disney in Data Analytics/Engineering around Seattle area. Where is/are the offices? (Seattle DT, Bellevue, etc) How's comp and WLB? Any re emote work? Better to join direct, through 3rd party recruiter or contract to hire (I presume direct as FTE is best)? Finally, about me... I'm a principal level data engineer with deep experience on big data (spark, presto, hadoop, etc) going back about 6 years. Business savvy, public speaking and leading/mentoring also come naturally where I can be in a deep technical discussion with data engineers and scientists one moment then switch to chatting with executives about how we'll best use our resources. If you're open to referring me to roles, hiring managers or recruiters, reply here or DM me. :)
You don't want to go to Disney. They're down town Seattle next to the public library. But it's a deadend job that's not tech focused. The employees there are a lot of fun, and big nerds. A good group. But you won't expand your skillset, and you'll probably regress from your current talents. They're not a tech company. And the pay reflects that. They don't have any interesting challenges to face. They'll pay you like 75% of what you're getting at Expedia. Disney is the kind of place you retire to when you're 55 and don't want to give a damn about working anymore. In at 10, 30 min coffee breaks, hour long lunches, another 30 min coffee break, and out at 3:30. It's a place to float on to oblivion and obscurity. Once you go there, you will stagnant and decay. Only do it if it's the last stop you intend for your career
Also, like 70% of their workforce are contractors, who are constantly getting cycled out. The knowledge decay is very real. Each new batch of contractors want to leave their mark, so they redo something that didn't need to even redone. This leaves everything in a patchwork abomination of bit rot and nightmare legacy systems. Internal politics are a game of managers trying to undercut each other and accumulate more contractors under them. But the managers themselves are often contractors too. It'll drive you nuts unless you can mentally distance yourself into a lobotomized state of not giving a damn.
Wow - that sounds like my team in Amazon (Amazon Business), maybe except for the 475k+ I am getting ;) (Not the contractor part, but the first part of hour long lunches, cocktails in lunch couple of times a week, couple of hours of coffee breaks in a day with 3-4 different folks!
Imagine the fringe benefits. - 4 people. Yearly pass - 3k. Cruise benefits. 3-5k per year. Most other things are standard
What? That’s awesome Yearly disney pass and cruise benefits for the family?
Hotel benefits - 1-3kper year.

Why Disney? Do you want to try Amazon?
I like the fringe benefits, because I have two kids. Amazon's [world] domination has put me off
