Working at Amazon really that bad?

I have the possibility of working at Amazon. Reading the posts here makes me not even consider it however. Im negotiating for a AWS security consultant role. Is all of Amazon really so unberrable to work at? TC: 290 YOE: 8

No it's ok. Blind audience is pretty skewed. Work at Amazon is tough but doable and even enjoyable once your projects start getting launched and make impact.

Tough work is ok but all my previous teams had shit work that which need no tech knowledge or capabilities

Amazon batou Aug 20, 2019

as long as you have projects, not just ops, amazon is doable.

L6 originally, I was surprised when the recruiter reached out with the possibility of L7 after the on site interview.

They never level up, only level down. Reason being your loop interviewers must be same or higher levels.

I had to work up to 40 hours one week. It was horrible. And my paychecks are twice as much as my last job. I literally have no clue what to do with my money bc most of my expenses went towards bananas before, and now they're free

Amazon desudesu Aug 20, 2019

It's true. Just don't give Amazon more than 40 hours a week. Set your boundaries and commit. If you get fired, almost anywhere else will probably hire you.

Averaged 35 hours a week and that’s including my daily 30 minute shits and 1 hour lunches. Showed up at the office before 10 once and was the 4th/5th person in on the whole floor. Perhaps I’m just blessed and never got to experience that Amazon horror. Maybe it’s AWS?

Amazon duck@ Aug 20, 2019

It's not about 1-2 persons or team, it's about the whole company. Lucky 10% will land into world's best projects with best WLB. I have heard horror stories from my friends in aws

It all boils down if you like bananas

If your hiring manager is legit and you set clear boundaries (meaning, I leave at 4 most days), then it’s good. Lots of intense people here, just ignore them and keep things in perspective for yourself. Not a whole lot of trust or loyalty that I’ve seen. But you can make a bunch of money and can hop around to other teams if you’re unhappy.

Amazon embodies all the worst aspects of capitalism. Doesn't care at all about employees. Company gives nothing to charitable causes. No contributions to open source but takes heavily from it. What other large corporation today has warehouse employees peeing in bottles to make their quotas?

Amazon AMZNBucks Aug 20, 2019

Sorry you got rejected

Amazon nEw bOy Aug 20, 2019

It all depends on the department you’re in and the team you work with. If you’re lucky, you’ll get to work with some amazing people who ain’t got time for political BS and will want to get the job done. If you’re unlucky, you’ll end up in a hell hole with backstabbing, narrow minded, sub par team mates. Spin the wheel, my friend. Maybe it’s your lucky day!

You need to join the right org...or you can pass on the offer and practice Leetcode a bit more to get Google.

Hello @BigRon, Congratulations for making in! I am also in similar phase, done with the telephone and have upcoming onsite for AWS Security Consultant.I am not sure on how the agenda of onsite would be. It will be really helpful to have your inputs here :) 1. 5 F2F same day, was there also a coding round for this role? 2. Dress code: Formals? Sorry but I dont want to sound like a unicorn in the interview. 3. Recruiter mentioned it would be moreover covering LP but still I dont want to leave any stone un-turned. Thanks again, looking forward to hear from you :) Cheers, SecNoob from other side of the Screen!
