They pay generously from what I know but wondering how it is like working there? Culture? Would you recommend Expedia to a friend?
The talent pool is pretty weak there. I heard it's easy to get promoted to director.
Interested to hear how you came up with both those comments. Disgruntled employee posting on Reddit?
Depends on the team you end up working for. I personally love working here, been here 4 years. Pay is competitive, benefits are great and work/home life balance is good. Plus we can basically work from home whenever we want which makes it even better. If you are talking to a recruiter you should proceed with it.
what benefits do you guys have?
Typical health benefits which are really good especially if you have a family. 3 weeks vacation to start plus 2 floating holidays. 4 weeks after 3 years. Personal travel allowance you can use, which is 250 to start a year, 500 after 3 years. 600 a year toward health, so you can pay for a gym membership, or season pass if you ski, etc. We get great discounts on hotels. Flights, not so much. But it's the same for every travel company because they don't make much on flights. But everyone is considered a travel agent working here so you can apply for the IATAN card. If you are willing to fly stand by you can fly anywhere Alaska flys super cheap. I went Florida round trip for 60 bucks. Let me know if you have any more specific questions I am happy to answer them.
I know Sr. Director from Expedia that was hired as Sr. SDM in Amazon and eventually did not survive there
Did not survive at Expedia or Amazon?
Amazon
According to whom? They pay the worst of the top 25 KingCo tech companies
I really think it depends on how you handle salary negotiations in the hiring process. If you accept a lower than average salary then don't expect to make leaps and bounds in an increase unless you are getting a promotion. It's the typical 2 - 3 percent at review time. I think salaries are all over the board but in my experience it's like that at almost every company. Also depends on what job you are applying for and what level you come in at. They work on an alphabetic system, so when you get to L and above the pay bands are pretty wide from my understanding. Bonus time is good and if you are at a level for stock options that adds to it. Sure there are companies that probably pay more, but if it's a difference between 10 grand at a job you are going to hate vs a job you are going to love, to me the answer is obvious. We all, or most, work to live and pay is obviously important, but there is something to be said about loving your job and the company you work for. You can't believe everything you read. If that were the case, I could bring up the Amazon article and tell you I have never once cried at my desk.
Thanks for sharing. This is pretty helpful! How do levels work at Expedia? Is it from a-z. Would L4 at Amazon be A or something? At Amazon we have L4 as entry level then, L5, and L6 Sr level.
k is sde, L is sde2 , M is SR. sde N is director/principal
^^ exactly as he/she said.
What's pay range for levels? Do they give stock as sign on?
Not exactly sure of the pay ranges but rumor is they are pretty broad. Depending on level, yes there are stock options at sign on. Most of the time a pretty big sign on bonus as well.
I worked there a few years ago and at that time the pay was quite a bit lower then MS and Amazon. Talked with a Expedia recruiter recently and they vented a bit about the compensation so doesn't seem like it's changed much.
Maybe OP is going in at a higher level. Should be okay. You should be inquiring about what the upward trend looks like
I talked to a recruiter from there once. They pay less than Amazon. Don't.
So let's say if they pay more (actually more than double what I make at Amazon), would you still say the same?
More than double? Non technical role I presume?
