Working at cognizant as mid lvl dev ?
Hello. I am currently looking for new job ,( I was working at gm for 3.5 years and got layoff recently . ) Recently, I got an offer from cognizant in east cost ( GA) for TC 103k. ( 100k+ cost of living adjustment for my area 3k every year, 10 days PTO, 401k , insurance etc ..) After reading lots of negative feedback about Indian own IT solution company reviews , I'm little bit worried to join cognizant. My longterm goal is to get in to one of bay area companies like FAANG At this point, I have to give them response to the offer no later till next week. Since I am us green card holder, I do not have any constraint to join any company. Should I look for other company ? I even saw posts that saying small cap/ start up is better than 'h1 body shop' companies . Your help would much appreciated. Thanks !!!

You are without a job. What’s the harm in joining? It’s a pretty solid company and has really good engineers.
Why would you even interview there?
They just contacted me all of sudden . So I wanted to give a shot to check my skill

Honest opinion: Pros: 1. You are a Green Card Holder so you don’t have major issues dealing with immigrations. Big relief interns of begging with managers. 2. You will get some project anywhere. Even if you don’t have Project you don’t have to worry like Indians as they will be sent immediately or after 2 weeks. They will somehow find a project anywhere inside US. 3.You will get any of the FAANG. I personally seen many ppl getting calls. It’s all about your tech stack and how you crack the interview. Most of the ppl in FAANG are from WITCH (Wipro, Infosys, TCS, TCS and HCL). 4. You will be lucky if you get offshore as they will take care of major development and you can do only coordination from here. CONS: 1. You are paid less. I donno what level they are hiring. 103k in GA is good when compared to other folks from CTS who are getting between 75-85K unless they are managers. 2. Your learning and career path will be affected unless you keep your hands on like leetcode always. If you don’t have any option then you can just join CTS and try other biggies and jump ship. You can bargain some more salary by saying, they don’t have to pay for your visa transfer or immigration as the salary is structured for including visa formalities. P.S: Don’t listen to whoever said before. They are neither from these companies nor know any details about them. Btw. I am not from CTS but I was from one of the WITCH companies.
Is point 3 is true ..LOL then my friend is wasting by paying out of state fee 60 K a year for his son Penn State CS degree . I told him better goto SJSU or Cal Poly since he didn’t got into UCB or UCLA and pay instate fee.
I haven't seen a single FTE from the Indian outsourcing companies.
Stay away You can make 100k anywhere else there is no lack of jobs, joining cognizant would always be a dark spot on your resume
Why is it bad on resume? Like is there any specific reason hr would hate services co in resume ?
Please stay away from service companies and 103k is very less for a lateral. Please try for product companies.
For Atlanta ui mid lvl, I see avg as 81k , 59k to 115k range . I thought salary wise this was okay deal. Anyway I agree that it would be better if I join product co. Is it still bad even if I'm going to put in development project from cognizant ?
Depends on your current options and how much effort you wanna put in interviewing. Keep in mind these are staffing companies
Stay away from Indian sweat shops. You will be surrounded by morons and bootlickers and have to constantly watch over your shoulders about getting laid off, if you are on bench. Anyone who works there long enough loses his confidence, sense of self respect and pride.
But how come they get a major chunk of H1b’s for last 10 yrs .
Hmm.. sounds awful . Do they give lots fo work? Is that why ?or is skills using in there not good ? Why would they lose confidence?
