I was contacted by Google for an interview. I told them I moved to another city already. They told me Google would cover relocation cost. I wonder why they didn't offer working fully remote instead, especially because even smaller companies offer their new hirees working from home 5 days a week.
Does Google allow working from home?#tech

My recruiter said there are Austin reqs, but they're too popular and taken up for internal transfers, so won't be available. Same for remote, I guess. (I think NYC, too.)
They probably do it to avoid disappointment and try to first fill all those in-person positions that noone wants to take.
It sounds like it might have to be done behind the scenes? No idea if it's even possible.
I'm secretly trying to pass HC and see if there's any chance to match with any geo-wide team that may be open for remote.
100% won't be relocating outside of Texas for Google unless no other choice or unless Google's TC for Seattle is too good to pass (which seems unlikely given that they lowball everyone these days). Getting a remote gig shouldn't be difficult these days, no idea what they're thinking.
