Bored of workig in Amazon, sick of living in London. Was looking for a new opportunity. Failed my Facebook interview. Ghosted by the recruiter! Have a Google Zurich interview, but obviously I am not really competitive. I am hence considering moving to Seattle (with L1 visa) where more interesting teams are. Questions: How is the job security in Seattle like? Can you get laid off immediately without any redundancy package at all? Should I worry about losing my job at Amazon even if I perform well? How long does it usually take to get GC? TC £120k yoe 10
Why are you sick of London? Can you provide some info to fellow blinders?
Boris Johnson. Brexit. 😉 Apart from that lower salary, higher tax, long and stressful commute, poor housing.
I have a relative that moved to Seattle to work at Amazon and it was a nightmare. She Ran out of Amazon to another company and LoVes it. Loves Seattle, but get ready for the high rate of living there. You can easily pay 4000.00+ a month for rent downtown. And traffic is a whole nother issue. Best of luck on whatever you decide.
Seattle's weather is comparable to London.. So that's one thing.. Amazon I believe the culture depends on the team.. Some are truly terrible and will make you want to quit.. At Microsoft at least lay offs are such that you will still be on payroll for 2months even though you can't come to work.. This gives you time to find another job.. I would expect amazon to be similar.. I moved to Microsoft on L1 though and you are not allowed to change employers.. Until you get an h1b or green card.. Green card would depend on the backlog for your country which I assume won't be terrible.. If you're a ppl manager you will qualify for EB1.. Else possibly eb2.. You can look up on the uscis website to see what's the current backlog for your country and category..
Make sure you ask them to adjust your TC. These London salaries are just not right.

Why do people walk in the middle or wrong side of hallways, sidewalks, and parking lots?
If you perform well you wont get fired. I only moved to Seattle a couple months ago but I really like it. Also, i havent worked for Amazon anywhere else but i hear it's the best place to be for career growth
Thats good to know. Thanks!
