Currently on STEM OPT, expiring Feb 2021. This was last attempt for H1B, didn't get selected. Husband is on F1 status, starting his OPT from September. So one possible option is to take break. When husband gets H1B and i140 submitted, can go back to work on H4 EAD. I know it is risky.

There are options to go to other country for an year and come back on L1, but don't want to disturb family (no kids yet), as husband and I were living apart for 3 years and don't want to do that.

I wanted to ask people with similar experience of going from working to non working. What was your experience. I love working in one of the best teams in Amazon. Confused.

  • Are you sure, your husband is going to get h1 next year ? The number of applications are 275k this year, next year it can be 300k ? Probability is like 30%

I know it’s difficult situation but don’t ruin your career.

You can come on L1 after 15 months or if you get h1 next year you can come in October.

  • From opt to h1 to i140 is not going to be quick. Expect 3 years Atleast if h1 gets selected next year. Perm takes time to prepare/document/file and approval. Not the smoothest and quickest in terms of timeline.

Is career so much more important to you than family and being with your husband? Same goes for your husband too. Cherish each other’s company and life. Look for opportunities in your home country and be together. Don’t chase the horizon like hungry dogs.

    • Of course it is important! You can’t say if it’s more or less important than anything/anybody else, but it is right up there and OP is a successful woman at amazon today and it will be important to her to ensure she’s not wasting away her life

I value family as well as my career. I wouldn't call people in unfortunate situation like me hungry dogs. There are people who files 2-8 H1B application and got up to 6 of them selected. Genuine applicants suffer and discussing options here to know more from experiences of people.

Does that even work? Where ever I am reading it's high risk and said to have high possiblity of visa rejection. But will get more information. Thanks

    • They do that for us here at Walmart. It's definitely high risk, make sure you don't travel outside the country while you're on it.

  • Right.. your best option is to move to another country. I would do that if I were in your place. Don’t sit around and wait for h4, we don’t know what will happen to it, so you don’t want to lose a lot of years in your career and become out dated.
