Shopify employees : Are you good?? They're pitting you against each other? wtf
One guy considered himself an “expert” in all digital media/advertising after his internship. Asked him what the difference between search marketing, display, social and mobile. Told me he never heard of those. Interview lasted literally 3 minutes.
How good an interviewer are you?
It’s shit like this that makes me think blind should only be for engineers...
Amazon has an internal wiki of this which is hilarious
At a previous job, I would usually start my interviews with a "hello world" in C++ (we mostly worked in that language) just to warm up and gauge the general level of "auto-pilot" skill / speed when doing something trivial. This one guy started off struggling to a ridiculous amount with hello world. He was doing it in C, even though I asked for C++. And then, since I could clearly see that he couldn't put together three lines of C/C++ code if his life depended on it. I told him we should proceed in whatever language he was most comfortable with. He said C++. The interview ended there.
You are an asshole “no offense”.
Asked one question and they talked for 30 minutes.
The candidate laughed at my question. So I hunged up on his ass and failed him.
What was the question? You sound butthurt.
Hung up
I had a candidate ask me about the culture, which is pretty standard. Started giving him the standard answer and he interrupted and asked “basically what I want to know is, can I drink on the job? How acceptable is it? And also, can I take you out after this? Are you free? Because I think we could have a good time.” I pinged HR / security during the interview and had him escorted off the campus. Needless to say he was not hired.
Someone had an existential crisis during the interview, deciding they don’t want to be an software engineer at all. Was weird.
I'm weirdly proud of this person for figuring it ot and making a change. Bad timing. Good self-analysis.
Sounds like you put them over the edge. They thought that the rest of their life would be enduring these kinds of demoralizing interviews every three years and, even if they were good at their job, they couldn't stand it any more.
Another company. Interviewing candidates for a mid-level developer position at a game studio. Candidate wanted to talk about how many millions of dollars the company he was presently CEO of was making in real estate software deals instead. He also refused to do any whiteboarding code exercises and genuinely seemed confused by the request.
I took an online coding assessment drunk once .... didnt go so well 😞
My friend took a Facebook interview drunk. He passed it. XD
I had a phone interview while vacationing in Vegas. Needless to say, I was too honest (liquid courage +lack of sleep) and was taken out of consideration.
