Horror stories from amazon and other tech, no experience with Wall Street or other industries but curious about thoughts.
Finance industry is the worst (70-100 hours consistently, and awful toxic backstabby culture) , consulting next (50-70 and constant travel, very competitive and loaded with type A people)... Tech is super cushy compared to most other industries. Some companies have harsher cultures (especially fresh startups where you really need to grind) but even the worst tech cultures max out at maybe consulting level
Apple also has a very bad culture. No work life balance and very toxic environment.
You’d be surprised to see how easy to coast at Uber. It’s completely different these days. People complain we move too slow
it really depends on the team you’re on and it’s particular culture.
Agree based on friends in IB and consulting, but Wayfair is way worse than amazon at politics and dealing with idiots. I don’t mind working hard with high expectations. Just depends what you like or don’t like. What stresses you out is an answer only you can answer.
So you thought 70 hours/week at Amazon is bad? That's considered normal by investment bankers on Wall Street where real crunch time is measured at 80-100 hours/week (or even more, if you need to work on a deal over the weekends). www.wallstreetoasis.com/forums/investment-banking-hours-what-to-expect
Pay per hour is still significantly higher at IB, i tell ya
not at analyst-associate level
