Has anyone joined a consulting firm from a product company (FAANG)? Do you like it? Is the comp as good as a product company? Current TC: 280k/Yr YoE: 6
You already make more than some partners
They are accounting firms. Not as prestigious as MBB
Why would you do that in the first place? The employees in consulting firms aren’t as competent and the client will make you work overtime because your team cannot meet a deadline. In some cases you won’t be paid for that overtime because it’s your team that’s slacking. The compensation would never be as good. No RSUs either.
From what I have gathered. Unless you are the crème de la crème, are very ambitious, a relentless worker, a ruthless networker, people’s darling, don’t mind starting with a shit salary and are destined to join the ranks of CEOs then stay away from these companies. For everyone else, major cons include working like crazy, dealing with a lot of stress, traveling a lot and being paid less than your peers in product industries. Pros include working with an array of technologies and becoming well-rounded individual contributor who can succeed in generalist roles
Accurate af
Expect to be treated as a second class citizen in general. Consultants can be real A*holes. It's not a pretty situation especially if you're from FANG
Dont. I have worked in Deloitte nd Facebook both. Product is much better any day
Consultants are all smooth talk, PowerPoint and no action.. they are desperate to get into tech.. don’t go the opposite direction if you can avoid it.. also their lifestyle sucks .. travelling from M to Th there is no downtime and weekends are spent just doing laundry and running errands while you get ready to travel for M
Straight facts. I’m lucky enough to have a project that’s local so there is no traveling. Still, our company isn’t that organized with client tasks and whoever pitches a potential deadline to get the work done, is overestimating our capabilities. You end up working overtime because the time window to get work done isn’t large enough. And you don’t get paid that overtime usually because the managers of said consulting group, thinks you’re being lazy. Any of us would take a tech company any day, from the perks to the TC. Only people who wouldn’t leave are managers that are comfortable with their work because they’ve never touched a tech company. They’re usually older folks who have no drive to learn new interview content and they’d be down-leveled in most cases.
Not even close. Likely half your current TC for that YOE.
Why would you do that? There’s no LIFE in consulting.
