I used to have several intern experiences in big tech companies (like FAANG), which add to 7-8 months in total. In future when I try to jump to other companies, would HR consider such 8-month intern experiences as YOE? I really wanna push myself and grow more quickly. Many thanks!
+1 not a chance
No
I say something like "6 years, 7 if you count internships", just in case :p
Absolutely not.
What if it's a full time internship after graduation
What makes it an internship?
The title
So why not people?
What's the difference between the experience of an intern and a first year engineer? They both learn the same shit and are both new. They both learn the tech stack, the ins and outs of corporate life, the code base, and how things get done. An internship just means the position is not long term which does mean that less expectation will be had on an intern. But a new grad that is 3 months into an internship is the same as a new grad 3 months into a full time job.
I don’t understand why you’re trying to debate this? Who are you even arguing with lmao
Also, plus or minus 1 YOE is not going to matter after idk 3 YOE or so. Is it really going to be your 7 vs 8 YOE that's the deciding factor of you getting that management position or landing an interview (besides getting passed resume algorithms)? There are 10x engineers with 2 YOE and dudes that have been on autopilot for 10 years. Track record, projects lead, portfolio, LC competency, personality, interview skills probably going matter quite a bit more. The people here saying that intern time doesn't matter are comparing a senior's skill to an intern's. This is stupid and not the question. A 40/hr internship can and should be counted in your professional YOE.
Are you just gonna label someone with 4 3-6 months internships the same as someone with 0?
Nope
