TC 160, YOE:10 in HW manufacturing. Have been engineering manager for most of my career but would like to explore Program manager opportunity, EPM or TPM to see a bigger picture of the program. Would you do it? Or which HW company would be your pick?
EM is a much higher level than PM
Feeling the EM work scope is too limited to certain function, salary level wise would be similar at least in our company between EM and PM. For longer career plan wise, wouldn’t PM be better as they would have more overall function exposure?
As an EM, you can pick up whatever scope you want. No company is going to tell EMs to be ignorant of the underlying business decisions driving development. It isn’t hard to find roles where the EM is the PM too.
No company, except F5, from what I've heard!
No
Only of you'll be the head of product (or VP or whatever) at your company.
Never. EM > PgM/TPM/EPM
