Assume you have offers better than your current job, from SF and NYC. Both offer more TC than your current, but NYC is offering less than SF. Would you take a TC hit to live in NYC? Assume company is similar in prestige and career growth.
Said yes just because SF is probably my least favorite city and NYC is one of my favorite. That being said COL is probably right about even between the two
Sure it’s arguably worse. It’s also arguably better. That’s how opinions work.
There is much more to living than weather and COL... now I am wondering why I am asking this on Blind 😂
Lived in BA, moved to Seattle. It’s no brain tbh ;)
I’d move to NYC only if I wanted to be closer to Yann LeCun. Luckily, FAIR has recently opened positions in Seattle, so I hadn’t to stay at either HQ or move to NYC.
I might choose the NYC offer and live in Manhattan, then move to Jersey City or outerskirts of NYC after a couple of years. Not looking forward to 40+ commutes though, as entitled as that sounds 😂
I'm from NYC and prefer living in SF. Weather is better here. I can bike to work. I love the outdoors (hiking, sports) and that's way better here. I do miss nyc culture tho - the people/vibrancy, not the arts.
I'd take lower TC to live in SF! Cost of living is about the same, so why live in over crowded NYC, instead of SF which has much better weather, and nature?!!!
Where’s the “30% higher TC” for NYC option. Otherwise no way in hell.

Tipping culture is really getting out of control! Waiter gave me ‘a look’ because I tipped her 10% for ‘BAD service!’
This is dumb for many reasons
Elaborate
A) it’s a dumb question B) It depends on where you’re moving from because cost of living, tax rate, etc. C) Where in NYC you plan to live?
