My wife is considering taking the Google IT Support Professional Certificate ( https://www.coursera.org/specializations/google-it-support). My wife has a college degree and has worked in corporate dining and hospitality for over 10 years, and is used to managing people and budgets and planning. We have a 2 year old daughter in full-time daycare now, and my wife wants to change her career and get a job in IT and wants to know if this Google IT course is worth taking, in order to get a part time IT Help Desk job (32 hours a week or less, and possibly remote). I’ve posted this question on LinkedIn and on my companies Slack rooms and got no feedback. Are there any IT Helpdesk managers on here that would consider hiring someone who has done this course who has no previous experience in IT Helpdesk support.
No responses from any IT managers come on this is Lame.
The challenge will be getting past corporate recruiters. Having said that, yes, I would consider someone with Google’s Help Desk certificate. Your best bet might be to attend a job fair with hiring managers in attendance. You might also want to apply at smaller companies or startups, as the qualifications recruiters look for tend to be a little more flexible.
Switching careers after 10 years definitely needs to show interest/involvement/up-to-date knowledge. Any certificate like that will help at the entry level.
