Worried that our top performer is an attrition risk. How do managers handle this?

Avoid teams with only Chinese or Indians especially with a Chinese/Indian manager
I interviewed at Snap LA office and got L6 manager offer, waiting for the numbers now. I checked levels, it will probably 620k to 650k. I am making 550k now at FB seattle, M1 managing 14 engineers/scientists. Financially, it might be the same, considering the tax. Will you make the move? Is it a carrer downgrade? they don’t want to change leveling.
Do a tax calculation, it may not be that big of a bump. If personally stay with Facebook, it's not going anywhere. Snap, I'm not so sure since TikTok and Instagram seem to be encompassing it
Would you have to move geographically? To me uprooting my social life, home and my family’s social life is a really big decision to make. If you have school age kids they have to make new friends, etc.
Yes, I need to move to LA, In winter time, I am not a fan of Seattle. My kids hate the weather here in winter. If it’s summer time, I might think differently (nice greenery vs wild fire!)
Why not transfer to FB Bay Area? The weather here’s great!
Snap will die sooner than FB
LA weather is excellent, and the CA public university system is world class (Cal State or UC). I’d take it even if you only manage to break even after taxes, your COL will go up but does it really matter if you save 250k vs 200k, and you live in a location where you and your family can do activities year round?
I think it would be a fun experience. Money isn’t everything. Would be cool to peek in there for a couple years... and they are on verge of being profitable
Something to consider is that LA cost of living is quite a lot lower than Bay Area, has much better food as well.
Snap is the future. Can you honestly say you believe Facebook will be far bigger in 10 years than it is now? I don’t know a single person under 30 who has the Blue app and IGs growth is contracting with a quickness.
If you truly believe people in their 20th still use snap you are mistaken. It’s embarrassing. Instagram and WhatsApp are not going away for any age. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t use Facebook products who is under 30 or above
Raises hand
Wow, 550k for managing 14 ppl team? Low
Worth it just for LA
How is work life balance like at Facebook ? Is snap also a management role ?
Normally 50hrs/week. Both management. There is no way I move from FB manager to Snap IC, unless they pay me 1M/yr....
Got it You won’t move to IC because you consider it as demotion ? Or snap IC is not worth because you are already in a prestigious company like FB
