...any full time SWE who always comes in after 9 and leaves before 5, usually staying 7-7.5 hours? At Bloomberg, the answer is apparently no.
Unless it's a factory or an hourly job, that shouldn't make sufficient criteria. Are you feeling like some co-worker is getting away with it and you're not? Work on how you can change your situation and not worry about others. It makes you bitter and eventually you might become a target. Live and let live.
And most of people in tech come in at 10 and leave by 4 ๐๐๐๐if they donโt do that then they may be perceived as slow and fired eventually.
For the record, you are describing Google, not tech in general. Many people actually work hard.
Work hard or work smart . End of the day who gets things done in shortest time is the winner. Plus I have just recently joined google and previously been with so many tech firms and all had similar cultures.
I've known engineers to come in around noon and take naps on the job that were still very effective and definitely not fired
It just depends on how their performance is, usually little correlation to 7 hour days vs 8 hour days
If they're getting the same amount of work done and value delivered, nobody should ever care.
Wtf is this poll, blind sucks
i wish my company were like this..
Our full time SWEโs are salaried, not hourly.
We donโt work in a factory, why would you fire them? You should judge them by their output and value to the team.
