I have 3 yoe of experience in India and 1 yoe in US. Microsoft is offering me l61 - 140k base, 35k sign on, 120k rsu, 10-20% bonus and told this is the max they can offer. This is much lower than my current comp and I have a better offer from a big fintech company in the East coast but Microsoft won't consider fintech as competing offer. When I asked for uplevel to l62 on basis of my yoe. HM told me although my interview performance was good, however my counted yoe is only 1 year in the US. And since I have a masters, so l61 is the appropriate level for me. I had a very competitive fintech engineering role in India (comp was 40 lpa) and I do value my experience there. I talked to a friend/ colleague from my company back in India who came to US for masters along with me and he was offered l62 on basis of 3 yoe in the fintech company right after graduation. College education is very similar too, same branch IIT undergrad and similar top university in US grad. Why is my experience being discounted then? I feel very disappointed and downlevelled and a loser. Do I even consider negotiating? I have only given 4 interviews so far and received 2 offers. Or should I keep hustling and try for better? Wlb sucks so don't want to stay in amazon longer but perf is good, so no immediate worries of pip/ focus.
