I am working in Amazon right now and I got an offer from Bloomberg. I’m getting better compensation (35% more) and opportunity to learn new technologies. I feel I have plateaued in Amazon and not doing exciting stuff.

I am not sure about if moving to Bloomberg from FAANG will reduce my opportunities later since it’s not considered “core tech”. What have been everyone’s experience with working in non-FAANG companies? Do they feel they get less opportunities to interview? Do recruiters move FAANG candidates to top of the list?

Sorry for being so paranoid, but I hope the community will guide me the best. Should I stay in FAANG or move to Bloomberg?

    • Google nyc has got to be like 20% ex BBG at this point. It’s the perfect place to poach c++ peeps

(yes google is language agnostic and yes you can do whatever once you pass interviews. But still. So much core infra in c++, and BBG is the largest local collection of c++ devs)

Worked in Bloomberg and so did many people in FANG in NY. Bloomberg has the best WLB of any big company in NY by far.

Bloomberg will also help you get into hedge funds by educating you on finance jargon.

I hated it there because I wasn’t growing but my team only worked 5-10 hours per week.

@wtfisalex well we did a lot of unnecessary scrum meetings. I and others came to work around 1030 and left around 430 and 2 on fridays. Lunch with a couple of the team members was 12-130. So I was at “work” 1.5 hours in the morning and 3 in the afternoon. Of those at least 2 were useless meetings that I just played on my phone. I did approximately 5-10 hours of work per week. This org was about 75-100 people when I left. Very conservative org so when I presented a proposal for a project it took 4 weeks for “approval” for my manager to let me work on it. So I just twiddled my thumbs for 4 weeks waiting.
