Worried that our top performer is an attrition risk. How do managers handle this?

I haven’t done shit today!
I took a position at Microsoft as a vendor 6 months ago at a very low pay with the understanding it would go up by after the end of fiscal year. Was just told today that I did get a “raise” but it’s nowhere near enough. Wtf do I do now? I would like to stay at Microsoft but it looks like my only option is to find a new job that actually pays fairly. Is the 6 mo. Going to look bad on my resume?
Having one job on resume for 6 months is not bad. Only if you have a couple that it looks really bad.
My last job was over 2 years. I mean at this point I dont really have any other choice.... it sucks though.
It is fine to change jobs. You have to pay your bills first. You would be leaving for more pay, which anyone should understand. Contract or vendor positions are expected to be shorter term.
You’re a contractor! Be happy with what you have and look for a permanent position of you don’t like it.
because I’ve clearly been sitting on my ass not looking for a permanent position??? I have expressed to my manager multiple times that I am looking to be an FTE. Issue is we don’t have headcount - and neither do the three other hiring managers I’m qualified to work under. There has been one position open below manager in the past year, and it was filled before I got here.
That’s how it goes!
Why don’t you just change vendor companies? Some vendor agencies completely screw you over in terms of pay but others don’t. A few people on my team did that and increased their salaries. Dm me if you want to talk about it.
Most likely. I think you have to stick with it for a year at least.
I legitimately can’t afford to stick with it for a year. My mortgage is 75% of my current income.
What's your income, what's your mortgage?
