Should Dara be fired for incompetence?

3000 more layoffs within a couple of weeks of laying off 3700 people? One can understand layoffs in the current situation. But, what the fuck did they learn in these 2 weeks that they didn't know before?

The only thing is they saw that the markets are taking layoffs positively.

Either hey knew all along that they needed to cut more, but were afraid if the stick will crash and hence announced a number less than they wanted to. But when they saw markets are rewarding them for layoffs, they have decided to go ahead with the rest.

Or they are grossly incompetent and completely fucked up the numbers on how much they need to reduce.

Edit: Corrected by employees: These are all part of the same layoffs, just being executed in phases. Employees were aware of it. Not sure if others were aware of it.

Chill. It was all planned and widely known internally. Just took extra two weeks to execute.

Pretty excruciating two weeks as an employee. I expect another round if/when Grubhub closes

Both the 3700 and the 3000 are the same wave of layoffs. The 3700 2 weeks ago were customer support and recruiting. Today the 3000 was everyone else, it just took longer cuz there are reorgs with it. Nothing changed in the last 2 weeks, this was the plan since before then.

There are plenty of reasons to criticize Dara and I'm livid about some of the cuts that were made, but the story you're describing is completely false.

6700 is just 3700 people layed off from 2 weeks plus 3000 people layed off today. All I'm saying is that both sets of layoffs were part of an overall plan, just unfortunate that they couldn't do it all at once. Not sure what numbers the media are reporting, but they tend to get things wrong and sensationalize. Any article that's says "Uber laying off more because they didnt lay off enough before to save enough money" are completely missing on what's going on. There are still more layoffs to come as part of this plan, as many countries have special rules for layoffs that require government review before they can happen. So if you see "Uber lays off N people in countries XYZ" next week or several weeks from now, it's part of this same plan. The exec's decided it's too big/complicated to wait to do it all at once.

From the outside he seems to be running the company pretty well. It’s impossible to run a company like Uber in this climate without making cuts.

Apple, generating shareholder value as a founder is not a given. Otherwise, we would see every start up succeed. TK did not leave a shit sandwich rather the board fired him when he was on bereavement leave when his mother passed. Quite simply one individual grew the wealth of shareholders the other has lost value. The people that bought the stock to help us IPO are still underwater.

    • Lol from the outside it looks like the company is collapsing internally. Making me wonder if I should sell my uber shares.
