I've got an offer at Amazon but I want the role here at FB. Should I stick around?
TC £130/IC5 non-SWE/PM up for promo next half. 36.
I live in the UK. I like it here, even if as an American I know the pay is 30% less, the taxes are high, and the retirement vehicles are limited. My current role, team, and hours are driving me nuts, though the work is prestigious.
Six months ago I fired up the job search. AWS offered me a sweet Product Manager role ($325k/L6) in Seattle. All my other leads went dead or fell through. This one surprised me. I hadn't considered PMing, but it's a good fit.
Only I'm hesitant to leave this place. Got a sweetheart, some friends, nice trains. Seattle... I lived there once and burned out in 13 months.
But I don't see a future on this team, in this role... This city?
Now suddenly a friend in the office has talked me up and there's talk on another prestigious team of making a PM role for me to head to.
I've been disappointed so much by "you're perfect for this, let me talk to someone!" opportunities.
I have almost secured the Amazon offer after much negotiation. I doubt I could delay the month required to prep and interview for this other team.
Should I stick with the opportunity I've secured although it means leaving a place I coule.see myself growing old in? Should I stay and pray for more opportunities? Should I use my offer as leverage?
Will I regret?

Don’t get me wrong. I think that the focus process in Amazon is actually a good idea. The problem is if managers have to much power they often tend to misuse it for their own personal benefit.
Don’t know if it’s the same in FB.
