Having some trouble making this decision and wanted to seek additional perspectives.

Google (L4)
TC: ~300,000 (170/325/25)

Two Sigma (L3)
TC: ~400,000

Both teams seem great, and the levels are equivalent. What I am unsure of is how the comp would grow over time for each. Can you count on either of these growing significantly over a few years? Google is in a slightly cheaper city, but the TS comp seems like it's enough to make up for this. Appreciate anyone's thoughts.

Wlb is really good. Just see how many people leave early for weekend vacations, one-off events, random errands etc. I see most people arrange their time the way they want, and generally have no meeting before 10:30am. G is big so this might vary from team to team. But I see many teams like this.

Any product areas in NYC that you may recommend I look into? Funny how things turn out, but day after I replied to this thread I received HC pass

  • Worked at both, which team at Two Sigma? If I was to pick between the two now I’d pick Google but team match matters. The comp between those two isn’t as different as it sounds, stock appreciation and refresher stacking could have you making more at Google, especially two years out.

    • Comp could hit $500k at Google in 2 years too with strong performance.

The numbers you mention above at the two places aren’t comparable because the comp structure is so different.

You’ll need to be on fast track for promo at both to see meaningful gains.

Another thing to consider is cash flow, at Google your RSUs will best more frequently while at TS your bonus is paid out in one lump at year-end.

If comp is your main factor you should treat both places as similar and also be promo focused at both. L4->L5 promo velocity at Google is in-org so if you are good you can do it in 2 years. What you want to find out at both places is how successful your manager is at getting people promoted to L5 (for Google) or L4/VP (for TS). What are the projects they have for you that will get you promoted? What are the chances those projects get canceled or fail or are viewed as low impact?

400k is about the cap for L3, you'll probably need to get to L4 to get better comp at Two Sigma. L4 ranges from 400k-500k+.

TS is probably not a bad choice, culture is pretty relaxed here, but growth potential seems to be higher at google.

    • All of Googles technologies are proprietary. We use open source tech heavily within TS and that knowledge is transferrable to any other company. Smaller company so it's easier to make outsized impact. Moose seems to be talking out of his antlers

  • Which city for Google if you don't mind sharing?

  • I wouldn't expect the TS comp to grow very fast, but ME WLB is probably pretty chill.
