I am sure there are 20 other threads like this, but I'm unable to find a relevant response. Does anyone know how fb decides between M1 and M2 levels? Should I be talking about specific things when sharing examples that will help with M2 leveling?

Managing < 25 people => M1
>25 and <50 people for 3+ years => M1/M2 based on interview and references
>50 and <80 people for 3+ years = M2
>80 = M2/D1
Experience at lower tier companies is discounted. Managing contractors/offshore does not count. Managing big team for short period of time does not count.
For interview, expectation is that M2 developed principles and can generalize individual cases and Apple them to org. Example - asked about developing sr engineers, M1 can talk on how he personally coach them etc, M2 is expected to answer on how he built org processes to support developing sr engineers.
And what qualification do you need to have for L7 round at google
I think a great experienced leader knows when the team needs management and when leadership - it depends on the company, culture, teammates experience etc. Netflix and Facebook don’t need micro managers and that’s great.
Anyhow - I’ll prepare better and try again - thank you for your support and advice! I loved the experience overall and it’s a great company!
You will also need to nail all interviews for M2. With your TC (significantly below M1 comp) and amazon level you will need to pass interviews at nearly director level for M2 offer. Lukewarm hire in individual interviews will result in final no hire for M2.
