I'm switching from Company A to company B. Both provide health and dental insurance, with the same provider (Great West Life). When I switch, does the used insurance balance get carried over? Eg. There is a 2K yearly limit on massage, physio, etc. And Ive used 500, does the balance reset to 2K? Or will I only have 1.5K left for the year when I join the new company? Trying to decide how many massages to get before leaving.

Unfortunately it varies a lot, and varies for an acquisition versus changing companies, and it varies whether your new health plan companies are the same as the old health plan companies, e.g Delta dental is the dental plan for both.

Not really - two employers both with their own self-funded plan do not talk to each other, even same insurance company.

At most you may still see your old claims ( probably give you a new userid for new company)

Now if the employer switched plans mid year (not often) things may be different

But if you switch nothing comes with you

Except your HSA balance you will keep

  • It depends, you have to ask the new plan provider.
