What is a “good score” in your mind?

Would you consider earning an MBA (paying out of pocket) from a school that isn’t in the top 5-7?

At what point is it no longer considered a “good investment,” if ever?

  • 730 is average at top schools (good score). If you are from an over represented group (bankers/consultants) you probably need to do better than that if you don't have anything else going for you for Top 7. Depends on your situation if it is worth going to any school (trying to change industries, have a much lower salary than median after MBA salaries, required for advancement, etc.).

Whether it's a good investment highly depends on what you are trying gain from it - change in career, earn more, just the experience overall,...? Also depends on where you are in your career.

It’s seems to me that outside of Harvard, Stanford and Wharton, there is no clear and consistent ranking in to the top 10 or even the top 15s . Is Yale, Berkeley, NYU, Cornell considered top 7? I see Chicago MIT maybe the other two better ones but the #6 spot going forward is hard to decide. Also while I think 700 gmat is good, I know many schools will “buy” good gmat scores by giving students with 740 above gmat scholarships. With a 760 gmat scores you can easily save 10s of thousands from scholarship to top 15 schools.
