Do not move to Austin. Your QOL will take a hit as you have to drive everywhere and the traffic and the airport are abysmal. You will end up buying a place in remote suburbs and driving around is dangerous. Plus if you are brown expect to see micro aggressions especially in areas like Leander , liberty hill , hutto etc

Austin is a lot cheaper than SF (although housing has shot up through the roof the last couple of years)

There's a lot of places to live that aren't in downtown but are close enough to downtown to not hate your commute. They're not cheap, but they're nice places to live and have things happening there (which is not my understanding of Sunnyvale)

Shitty, but if you live by the train line you can commute downtown on it from quite a bit away

wait until traffic comes back normal, living in round rock will take you more than 40min to get to downtown. i live closer to you, and before covid hit, sometimes it take me 30 minutes to get my north austin home from central austin. so people buying the house far r being a bit naive by the traffic now

I live in austin and will be moving to Sunnyvale next year. based on my research, For TC only, there’s a 50k differential if you are a renter, and 100k differential is you are a home buyer. So if your 160k is Austin and you rent, you’ll be good in Sunnyvale with 210k. Now if you factor in growth opportunities, it tips toward Sunnyvale. Wlb is mostly the same, sometimes austin is worse because we deal with Californian time. Environment and weather? Sunnyvale hands down. Food? Depends on your taste. Good housing? Austin hands down.

    • Nice, mine is L3 so still waiting on numbers, dowleveled due to recruiter misunderstanding so I won’t be reaching close to that even in Sunnyvale

I was downleveled from l5 to l4. But I think this comp is l5. So don’t loose too much sleep on it as long as the money is there.
