Non-profit jobs pay less money- that too in expensive cities like NYC, SFO. How do u negotiate with them when the HR tells u the exact salary first hand?
Multiple offers can help. But how do u navigate the convo when they start with "This is the exact salary, are u fine with that?"

I understand it's what it is. At the same time, that feels like that's a shitty move by the HRs when they do it blatantly.

Some HRs subtly point at your visa situation. How do u negotiate with these Research assistant, Researcher, Scientist jobs?

  • They are non-profits, so tight on cash. Find a for-profit organization if your motive is to make money.

Many non profits just for sake of saving cash for higher management team will keep others pay low. Speaking after working for 3 non profits over 7 years..

    You dont, basically.
They are very limited on resources, they are selling the "doing good" aspect of the job (that, and likely shorter hours, more schedule flexibility, lower pressure to perform, etc.)
If you wanted money, why would you even talk to a not-for-profit? Doesn't the very name of that sector tell you enough?

    • Many non profits have a lot of revenue especially in healthcare. Executive leadership will pull in millions in TC as their base salary and bonus although substantially less when compared to for profit. Non profit will still pay top dollar salaries though for talent to stay competitive

You should also have a non profit mindset if you want to fit in.
