Has anyone gotten a job at any high-paying company JUST from just a certificate or a coding bootcamp graduation?

  • Even a CS grad wouldn't get a job because of certifications. Point is, only leetcode prep matters. Not your academic major or certifications.

I have multiple friends who landed high paying tech jobs. Someone got to Google, another person to LinkedIn, multiple people went to Amazon. Usually good job was the second one.

I know some people that graduated boot camps, but it boils down to another question, really:

"Can you land a job in a good company as a self-taught Software Engineer".

The answer to that is: "Yes, you can, if you can do enough work beforehand". Depending on your luck and brains it can take up to 2 years of self study. Average would be 1 year of really hard work.

FYI. There are free alternatives to coding boot camps.

FYI2. Your biggest challenge will be to get invited to interviews. Companies don't want to talk to people without degree/experience, but hiring bar is often crazy low.

We hire bootcampers from time to time at Twilio. I also have a friend who just self taught herself for a year and was able to land a junior engineer job at a very small company. They hired her because she showed enthusiasm for the work even though she wasn't super knowledgeable yet. Pay is meh but what can you expect for a junior engineer job with basically 0 experience.
