Got a product designer offer at Verizon Media/Yahoo SF and not sure if I should take it. I cared less about money but more in terms of personal growth as a fresh grad. I wonder what the perception of Yahoo is these days, especially with the Apollo acquisition thing going on. Would I be considered a capable/valuable designer with Yahoo on my resume?
Thanks all!

Scale - You’ll get to design experiences that are used by close to a billion people across the globe. Even on smaller product areas you’ll be designing for tens of millions of users. Outside of the dominant tech players, there aren’t a lot of companies who have the scale that we have.
Scope - We operate lean and so the scope you get as a Designer tends to be bigger than comparable teams at bigger companies.
Influence - Design is embedded within the Product and Engineering process and we definitely have the opportunity to influence the outcome at every stage of the process.
Breadth - There are a lot of different aspects of design you can take on all under the same company. From challenges that require much more visual design focus to products that will really push your interaction design skills. You can and will grow all aspects of your product design skill set here.
Alumni network - Former Yahoo’s are at almost every major tech company and at every level. From CEO’s down you’ll hear alumni almost always talking fondly about their time at Yahoo and how they still “bleed purple.” Designers from Yahoo often move on to work at Facebook, Amazon, Google, AirBnb, Twitter, Salesforce, and Dropbox. Our alumni network is strong and having Yahoo on your resume will certainly get you noticed.
Of course there are downsides. Operating lean means we are stretched too thin some times. Under Verizon we have been super risk adverse and avoided making big bets. We don’t have a lot of information about what will happen under Apollo.
Hope this is helpful. Happy to answer any questions.
